Admissions Policy
It is expected that all children will attend school every day with a minimum attendance of 97%.
Starting school is an important step in the life of a child; we therefore try to make it a pleasurable and happy one.
The admission procedures for the Nursery class and the Reception classes operate in line with Birmingham City Council Education Authority’s policy. To view this policy please follow the links below:
Nursery
Parents and carers should apply directly to the school. Nursery class offers part-time places 5 mornings or afternoons. From September, there will also be the option to take full-time places, subject to availability. It is advisable to contact the school to register your interest and apply for this.
Children start in groups, in the September of the academic year in which they become four years old. There are opportunities for parents and carers to visit the Nursery and meet staff before their child starts. All Nursery class children will be visited at home by their teacher. This visit is important and a time where the teacher can talk to you and your child in a familiar environment and will give you the chance to ask questions about the Nursery and talk about your child.
We expect children to be fully toilet trained before they start our Nursery.
Reception
Parents and carers should apply to the Local Authority. Admission details are sent to home addresses for parents to complete the Admission Form on-line. We have an admission limit of 60 children from September 2026 onwards. Children come into school in the September of the academic year in which they become five years old, although it is possible to defer entry until later in the year.
In July, children being admitted to the Reception class who have not been to our Nursery will be visited at home. This visit is important and a time where the teachers can talk to you and your child in a familiar environment and will give you a chance to ask questions about school and talk about your child.
Parents must be aware that a place in the Nursery does not guarantee a place in Reception.
Criteria For Admissions
Places are allocated in accordance with the Birmingham City Council Education Authority’s policy for admissions, and are offered to: –
- Children in the care of the local authority or who previously were.
- Children with a brother or a sister already at the academy who will still be in attendance in September of the academic year they are starting Reception.
- Children who live nearest the academy.
Within each of these categories, priority is given to those who live nearest the academy, calculated on the basis of a straight-line measurement between home and academy.
Parents should contact the school office for admissions to all year groups other than first time applications to Reception. A waiting list will apply if the admission limit of children is exceeded in any year group.
Appeals
Parents have the right of appeal against non-admittance.

Visits To The School
Prospective parents are welcome to visit the school at any time during the school day by appointment. An Open Morning for prospective Nursery and Reception parents is held in the Autumn Term.
Consultation on increasing the Published Admission Number (PAN) of Erdington Hall Primary School
In order to enable more children to benefit from the high levels of education and care on offer at our academy, and following consultation, we have expanded our Published Admission Number (PAN) from a single form entry to a two-form entry for Reception entry in September 2026.
